Enjoy this #TBT to one of my first days in Paris on this day LAST YEAR!
Bonjour Sunshines!
Day three in Paris was full of adventures! Check this one out…
Galeries Lafayette. The mall in Paris that puts all American malls to shame.
I’m not much of a shopper. Let’s face it, I’m a college student on a tight budget. But, luckily for me, I’ve never had a strong desire to spend copious amounts of money on clothes.
However, what I do enjoy is Anna Kendrick being Anna Kendrick. Her #missadventure spots for Kate Spade, New York, are charming and extremely entertaining.
Kate Spade made a smart move casting Anna Kendrick in their ads. I think she really embodies a modern, quirky woman and a lot of girls can relate to that. She is smart, witty and wonderfully awkward, all of which makes her beautiful, which is what we all want to be right?
I had never really heard of Kate Spade before Adweek featured Kendrick’s first holiday spot. However, the ad got me curious about the brand. When episode 2 came out on Facebook, I noticed people asking questions in the comment section about sizes and ordering online. But, there was one comment that really caught my attention. Someone mentioned the flamingo scarf Kendrick wears on her head for a split second while talking about the color pink. And Kate Spade replied to their comment, happy to hear they were interested in the design, and provided the link to purchase the scarf.
Not really a big deal, but considering that we live in a digital age, it’s disappointing to see how many brands miss out on an easy opportunity to connect with their audience. It’s as simply as replying to a comment. People like to be heard, and social media makes that easier every day.
I personally respect brands more when they take the time to interact on social with their customers. Which is why today, when we visited the Galeries Lafayette in Paris, I decided to take a look in the Kate Spade store.
This is what good advertising and great social presence can do for a brand. First, raise awareness with an entertaining ad. Then, build the relationship by taking the time to listen to what the customer wants and finding a way to give it to them.
That’s what happened to me. I went from absolutely zero brand recognition to actively seeking out their store in a Parisian mall. And guess what I found when I got there…?
Flamingos!!
Now, did I buy anything? Unfortunately not. (See sentence one.) Partially because the sales lady was eyeing me for taking pictures of flamingo covered clothes, and because I’m incapable of pulling off a regular hat, so what would make me think I could pull off one that has a big pink bird on it. Exactly.
Bonne nuit!
Stay shiny my friends.
xoxo, Kelsie
